Hi there, I’ve just had a read through of your squeeze page which was sent to me by Mike Filsaime. It’s a great idea and I have to say I was excited about the prospect of buying a city.
However, I was brought back to earth when I discovered that you guys had shot yourselves in the foot. I’m UK based which means there are basically no cities available as you guys appear to have made a HUGE mistake by collectively placing the whole of the UK in one directory (which is of course now sold). This is far from local as the UK is more than 500 miles in length. And you guys are at pains to point out that you’ve… quote “done your homework” and that you have a team of experts on your advisory panel.
Well what they seem to have failed to advise you on is a simple geography lesson. Thus, what you could have done was get $3000 for every major city in the UK, eg: Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Birmingham, LONDON!!, Leeds, Newcastle, etc etc, the list is quite large. Many of those cities have well in excess of 100,000 and the population of the UK as a whole is more than 50 million!
So, tough luck if you want a city in the UK, because it is now under the non-local umbrella of the UK as a whole.

Must admit I totally agree with you!
So I contacted the owners at DNA and they have confirmed to me that they made a mistake with DirectoryofUnitedKingdom.com and that this directory is going to be withdrawn.
This is good news as it means that it opens the directory up for UK Cities.
The only downside to this is that DNA does not actually own any of the DirectoryOf….com domains for UK cities.
However you can still get in with your own domain name, but I think you’ll have to be quick to register your UK city directory domain name, as I just did a check for some local to me in the UK and found that many have already gone, some quite recently.
Remember that the domain name for your UK town or city (over 100,000 population) has to be a dot com starting with directoryof… and then your town/city/area name.
If you can’t get the exact town name then first check that it is not already in DNA and then be imaginative with the town/city name.
I am not sure at this point how flexible DNA will be in accepting town/city names that are not exact, but current opinion seems to suggest that they will be flexible and prefer to have a city in the directory rather than not, even if the city name is not in the standard format.
When you have your name go to the DNA Website, switch to the app.html page in the url and submit your application to join the network.

I’m based in the UK.
I’d take this argument one stage further and suggest that there should not be any whole countries for sale….period. How else is this site going to become a truly global local search site? It may become the new google in the states but it won’t anywhere else without subdividing other countries in the same way!
Little re-think before this will work, but then show me where to sign!
Seems like DNA are still getting their policy sorted out regarding how to treat non-USA cites in other countries.
Initially I think they saw anywhere outside the US as a holiday (vacation) destination and this resulted in the problems with country directories as mentioned above.
As soon as some sort of policy gets formalised I will post the relevant information here.
